Preventive Maintenance
- Tank Type Water Heaters ~ Drain your water heater at least twice per year to remove settlement. This tip could double the life of your water heater. If your water heater is already a few years old, it is probably a good idea to skip this tip.
- If your natural gas water heater is kept in a place where gasoline fumes may be present (for example, a garage or place where you store your lawnmower) , make certain the water heater is a minimum of 18 inches above the ground.
- Tankless Water Heaters ~ Descale your tankless water heater at least once per year to extend the life of the internal copper tubing and to keep a high efficiency factor which will significantly reduce your gas or electric bill.
- Make sure the relief valve is extended to between 6 and 24 inches from the ground.
- On your natural gas water heater, make sure the vent pipe has a minimum 2 inch clearance from any combustible materials such as wood, paper, and shingles.
